Writing for the Middle Grades is a hot market.

• It looks easy enough to write.
• All you need is a compelling, believable plot line and equally believable young characters.
• The stories/chapter books are short, so it shouldn't take too long to write.

Write? Errr… right? Think again. The Middle Readers (ages 8-12) are picky, picky, picky. The language must be simple, but not too simple. The plot must be uncomplicated, but not too uncomplicated. Most importantly, the story must be believable and on their level.

Prerequisites are Dynamic Nonfiction, Creative Writing 101, and Short Story, (preferably in that order), or the equivalent thereof if you’re coming from another school.

At the very least, you must have the equivalent of Creative Writing 101 and Short Story. You may be asked to take an eligibility test for this class, and you must score 88 out of a possible 115 points. To take the test, write to the tutor at This is not an open book test.

Contents of the Middle Grade Course: writing for the Middle Grades will give you understanding and appreciation for this young audience. You will learn how to plot your story, create enchanting and contemptible characters, a believable storyline, learn how to write to the Middle Grade theme, drive your plot with action, and resolve the odds movements loose ends with finishing grace. You will also learn how to write great query letters, develop your platform, promote yourself and your early Chapter Book, and prepare for the most exciting time of your life – that moment when you actually hold your book, open the cover, and see your name as author!

This is a jam packed, action course and Ms. Emily will be your personal tutor, available six days a week. Ready? Just click on the link below to sign up.
